HSP station

The main objective of the Hornsund Seismological Observatory is continuous recording of local earthquakes with tectonic and glacial origins from the Hornsund region, as well as near tectonic quakes. The station is part of the international seismological observatory network, using the code "HSP".

stanowisko sejsmiczneThe local seismic measurement network consists of ten short-period seismometers located 600-1100 m from the station. At two sites, the three spatial components of seismic vibrations (north-south, east-west, and vertical) are individually measured, while at other sites, the vertical component is measured. Data from all sites are transmitted via cables to the station, where automatic digital recording takes place. After pre-processing, the data are sent to the Institute of Geophysics in Poland for further processing, analyses, and interpretation. The data are accessible in digital or printed formats.

kontrola sejsmometruAdditional records related to the dynamics of the Hansbreen glacier are made every year during periods of increased glacial activity (spring and summer), using seismometers located directly on the glacier surface.
